The Uptown Crossing Business Improvement District was created in 1995 with the initial task of enhancing the streetscape within the district. The streetscape improvements included pedestrian lighting (Milwaukee Harp lights), tree plantings, and several bump-out focal points along West North Avenue where decorative brick pavers, street furniture and plantings were installed. Additional improvements include two colorful pole banners, trash receptacles and seasonal decorating. The BID has also investigated property acquisition, added bus shelters, lighting, a Millennium Art Project at The French Immersion School (51st and West North Avenue) and the addition of a public art piece for the tip of the West Triangle.
