NEW SPA IS HERE TO MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD
Cynthia Caldwell has been building her beauty business since 2017. She couldn’t have been more pleased than when she opened the multi-service Renude Esthetics Spa at 5523 W. North Avenue in BID 16 Uptown Crossing.
The spa offers everything from facials to body waxing, lash extensions, eyebrow care, body scrubs, paraffin treatments and more. It has been a long time coming — with a lot of planning and hard work along the way.
Caldwell took a leap of faith last year when she decided to move Renude Esthetics to its new brick-and-mortar location. She felt grounded with her family and four children and with her career as dean of operations at St. Catherine’s Catholic Elementary School.
“My beauty business was growing and I knew I couldn’t provide all of the services I wanted to at home anymore,” she said. “I thought, it’s time to launch this adventure and get out there so the world can know who I am.”
Caldwell was undaunted in her goal to start her own business. She already had a role model in her mother, the owner of a children’s day care business. It just seemed like second nature.
“I am a self-taught person,” Caldwell said. “I have an education and my aesthetician license. I read, read, read. I network. My faith is always with God, and because of that I really want to do what I can in the world.”
Caldwell was graduated from and received her aesthetician license through Aveda. It only makes sense that her business is grounded in helping people enhance their well-being.
“I love talking to people, making them feel good and helping them look beautiful,” she said.
She had been looking for the right place to plant the spa when an opening came up in the same block as Sho N Out Barbershop, Whiskey Haze and Vennture Brewing.
“I grew up in Uptown and work on North 51st Street, so I’m very familiar with the area,” Caldwell said. “I had prayed and prayed, and waited, and this space came up. I literally thought it was a blessing.”
“I love talking to people, making them feel good and helping them look beautiful,” says Caldwell.

While she has been providing the spa’s services herself, Caldwell has a partner for special events and is looking to hire a receptionist. Ultimately, she plans to leave her day job for the spa.
“My goal is to continue to market myself, help people understand what I do and to tell them about my passion for it,” she said.
As her business continues to grow, she expects to give back more to the community, too. Her focus is on single mothers who need clothes and other items for themselves and their children.
“I like to help people look and feel good so they can get to the next place that life has ready for them,” she said.
