 Independent Contractor, Business Improvement District #16 Uptown Crossing

 

Milwaukee BID 16 Uptown Crossing is seeking an independent contractor to manage business, community and development activities in the business corridor for 2025. This 1099 opportunity offers a chance to lead and execute strategic initiatives for the growth and development of our vibrant business district.

 

The independent contractor will work remotely within the city of Milwaukee, reporting to the BID 16 Board of Directors and is responsible for overseeing various aspects of both the BID, a commercial district along W. North Avenue, between N. 60th Street and Sherman Blvd and along W. Lisbon, between N. 46th Street and N. 51st Street, and the Uptown Crossing Economic Development Corp. Some in-person travel to local businesses will be expected when necessary.

 

TASKS

Administrative

- Plan and schedule board meetings

- Manage BID vendors and their activities

- Maintain and update the BID website

- Create and distribute stakeholder communications

- Serve as a liaison between the BID and the City of Milwaukee

 

Financial Management

- Oversee the BID's budget

- Coordinate with accounting firm for bill payments

- Coordinate with CPA for annual financial review

- Prepare annual operation budget and reports

- Ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency

 

Strategic Planning

- Execute priorities outlined in BID 16's newly developed strategic plan

- Develop partnerships to increase corridor development

- Pursue fundraising and sponsorship opportunities

 

Community Engagement

- Interact with business and property owners in-person, over Zoom/phone

- Facilitate city and BID grant programs

- Organize community events

- Represent BID 16 at local events and partner meetings

 

QUALIFICATIONS

- Strong leadership and time management skills

- Ability to work independently

- Experience in urban planning, economic development, or related fields

- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

- Budget management experience

- Fundraising and sponsorship acquisition knowledge

- Familiarity with local government operations and regulations a plus

 

The independent contractor will have the freedom to determine their own hours and methods for completing the work.
